  1. Take a test photo: Shoot a new photo with your Nikon DSLR or mirrorless camera. Use JPG format and do not edit the file.
  2. Upload the photo: Drag and drop or select the unedited JPG file from your Nikon camera.
  3. Read the shutter count: The tool extracts the shutter actuation count from Nikon-specific EXIF fields. Look for 'ShutterCount' or 'ImageCount' in the metadata table.

FAQ

Do all Nikon cameras store shutter count?

Yes, virtually all Nikon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras store the shutter actuation count in their EXIF MakerNote data. This makes Nikon cameras among the easiest to check.

I see 'MakerNote' but no shutter count — why?

The MakerNote is a binary data block. The tool attempts to parse it for the shutter count value. If the camera model uses a different encoding, the raw MakerNote binary data is shown instead.

My Nikon Z camera has a very high count — should I worry?

Nikon Z mirrorless cameras primarily use an electronic shutter, which has no mechanical wear. The count is still recorded but doesn't indicate physical degradation like it does for mechanical shutters in DSLRs.
