This Privacy Policy describes how the "Image Metadata Viewer" Chrome Extension ("the Extension") collects, uses, and protects your information. Your privacy is paramount to us, and this Extension is designed with a strict focus on privacy and minimal data handling.
The "Image Metadata Viewer" is a Google Chrome extension designed to help users view detailed metadata (such as EXIF, dimensions, file size, and MIME type) of images directly within their web browser.
The Image Metadata Viewer Chrome extension DOES NOT collect, store, transmit, or process any personal identifiable information (PII) from its users. This includes, but is not limited to:
When you right-click an image and select "Show Image Metadata," the Extension performs the following actions:
fetch request within your browser to retrieve the binary data (the actual image file) of the image you right-clicked. This is necessary to extract accurate file size, MIME type, and EXIF metadata.exif-reader.js) is used to extract metadata tags (like camera model, date taken, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, and GPS coordinates if present). The Extension requests the following permissions, which are strictly necessary for its functionality:
contextMenus: This permission is required to add the "Show Image Metadata" option to the browser's right-click context menu when the user right-clicks on an image. This is the primary way to activate the Extension.activeTab: This permission allows the Extension to gain temporary access to the active tab when you explicitly click the context menu item. It enables the injection of the content.js script into the currently active tab to display the metadata overlay directly on the page you are viewing.scripting: Required by Manifest V3, this permission allows the Extension to programmatically inject the content.js script into the activeTab to create and manage the metadata overlay.host_permissions: <all_urls>: This permission is crucial for the Extension's background service worker to fetch the binary image data from any URL on the web. Images can be hosted on various domains (e.g., CDNs, third-party services) that are different from the current page's domain. Without this permission, the Extension would be unable to perform cross-origin fetch requests necessary to retrieve and parse complete metadata (like EXIF) for a wide range of images. It does NOT grant access to your browsing history or content of all pages unless explicitly activated by you for a specific image on that page. Our Extension is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13.
