How to Edit Metadata with Metadata Finder
Follow these simple steps to change metadata in your PDF or Image files:
-
Upload or Drop Your File
Start by selecting your PDF or Image file (like JPG, TIFF) using the file picker or by dragging and dropping it onto the upload area. It's Private: The file is processed only in your browser and never leaves your computer.
-
View Current Metadata & Click "Edit"
First, the tool will show you the metadata it found in your file. Look for the "Edit Metadata" button (it looks like a pencil icon) and click it to switch to the editing form.
-
Modify Editable Fields
An editing form will appear. You can type new information into the available text boxes. Please note: Only certain common fields can be edited (like Author, Title in PDFs, or Make, Model, Software in images). Fields that cannot be changed with this tool will be greyed out (disabled).
-
Save Changes & Download
Once you've made your changes, click the "Save & Download" button. Metadata Finder creates a new file containing your updated metadata. This new file will be downloaded to your device. Your original file remains unchanged on your computer.

Understanding Editable Metadata (What Can You Change?)
Metadata Finder allows you to change specific, commonly used metadata fields in supported file types.
For PDF Files:
You can usually edit: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator application, and Producer application.
For Image Files (JPEG/TIFF):
You can typically edit text fields like Make, Model, Artist, Copyright, Image Description, Software, and some simple numeric fields like Orientation or ISO Speed Ratings. Complex fields (like camera settings stored as fractions) or binary data cannot be edited here.
Important Note: Editing is not supported for Video, Audio, or other document types (like DOCX, PPTX) in this tool.
FAQ (Editing Metadata)
Which metadata fields can I actually edit?
For PDFs, you can edit standard properties like Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, and Producer. For images (like JPG, TIFF), you can generally edit common text fields (Make, Model, Artist, Copyright, Description, Software) and some basic number fields (Orientation, ISO). Complex technical data or fields for unsupported file types (video, audio) cannot be edited.
Will editing change my original file?
No. Metadata Finder always creates and downloads a new file with your changes. Your original file stays exactly as it was on your device.
Why are some fields disabled (greyed out) in the edit form?
Fields are disabled if they represent data types that are too complex to edit with a simple text box (like certain camera settings), if they are generally considered read-only information, or if they belong to a file type where editing is not supported by this tool (like video or audio files).
Can I add *new* metadata fields that weren't there before?
No, this tool currently only allows you to modify the existing, supported metadata fields found in the file. You cannot add completely new, custom fields.
